Pianist & Composer

21-year-old, Nova Scotia native Isaac Adams is an aspiring concert pianist and composer, having performed across eastern Canada. Graduating from the Halifax West High School French immersion program, Adams is currently studying piano with David Rogosin and composition with Kevin Morse at Mount Allison University.

Adams’ past music teachers have included Jenifer Matheson (B. Mus), Betty Ro (M. Mus), Simon Docking (Ph. D), and Lorna Wanzel (Ed. D), with additional coaching by Ludmila Knezkova-Hussey, Julien LeBlanc, Evgeny Starodubtsev, Gilles Vonsattel, Peter Allen, Robert Kortgaard, John Novacek, Emily Hamper, Robert Riseling, Kristina Szutor, Jennifer King and Lynn Stodola.

In addition to piano, Adams has had training in several other musical specializations. These include the tin whistle, recorder, trumpet, and voice. With these, he has performed in a number of ensembles including choirs, concert bands, jazz combos, and various mixed groups.

Adams is well known for his musicality and incisive interpretation of modern music. In 2007, Adams was the recipient of the Walter Kemp Prize for his performance of Alexina Louie’s composition Shooting Stars. Since then, Adams has enjoyed playing repertoire from both the post-romantic and 20th century eras.

Recently, Adams has released his two latest compositions: Feel The Wind, a contemporary piano solo, and Time To Praise, a modern sacred chorale. Adams is currently working on his first album, and anticipates its release within the next few years.

An innovative leader, Adams founded the non-profit organization Equilibrium Youth; a group that seeks to change the perspectives on youth through the arts. During the summer of 2009, with a goal to create new works that advocate social change, Adams was awarded a grant from the United Way to lead a team of young artists to create a CD that portrayed the adverse effects of stereotyping through music.

Adams has appeared as both a soloist and chamber musician in several concert series including the Scotia Festival of Music, TNT Hali-Cares Fashion Show, Mount Allison Collegium Musicum and St. Andrews Arts Council Sanctuary Recital Series.

Already establishing himself publicly, in 2010 Adams was featured in the summer issue of Black to Business magazine’s BIJ Rising Stars. Adams can also be heard frequently on Sackville, New Brunswick's CHMA 106.9 radio channel and is one of the featured artists on Mount Allison University's 2012 Conduct Becoming album "All of Us".

Alongside his many musical awards, Adams has achieved significant recognition for his outstanding community involvement, leadership experience, and academic achievement. Such awards include the prestigious Mary Emerancy Pickard Bell scholarship, June Callwood Harmony scholarship and the African Nova Scotian University Entrance scholarship.

In addition to concert appearances, Adams is available to perform at weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, house parties, funerals and corporate events.
